Don’t you love random? Well, good! Because me+random=made for each other!
Every Sunday night I go through my pictures, which helps me remember what I have or haven’t shared with you. This is why my end of the week posts are all kinds of random.
So, here ya go! I finally got ALLLL of my Play Dough Unit printed, laminated and ready to go for the year. I also got a boat load of play dough purchased so I am super happy about that. I am sure there are great recipes to make fabulously scented play dough but ain’t nobody got time for that right now! J I am so happy I decided to create this unit. I hope that doesn’t sound like I am tooting my own horn, because I broke that guy a long time ago. Haha!
Seriously, I feel like kindergarten is moving towards the new second grade and the fun suckers have attacked and taken all that was wonderful about the littles’ learning and taken it away. I am not talking about my school or admin because I know you feel me too, and you are in another state, right?! You know, those people who make all the decisions somewhere wayyy up high and then pass them down and stress everyone and their dog out? Yeah, those people. I’m not a fan! I think little people should paint, and sing, and YES, use play dough!
So, I created an “objective based” unit (don’t you love it when I use big words?) where our little friends could still
play learn and have
fun. I will get off of my play soap box and not flood this here blog with all
of the great statistics of the importance of play and this could possibly be
the reason our kids are so socially challenged today but I won’t go there.
Nope, shutting this trap right now, ehem.

Moving on. I LOVE science. You should know this, right? If you have the Journeys curriculum, you totally should read this book
to your kids when you intro science…which I am sure you have done by now because we have been in school forever. I mean it doesn't feel like forever but I just finished report cards so it must have been a long time. We are not highly functional in centers yet so I question the whole time thing. It is playing tricks on me I think. Maybe I have been reading too many Junie B. books. I don’t know. Squirrel! Seriously, can’t focus. That’s probably because it is 11:11 (make a wish) at night and I should be asleep but I have a bad case of the PMS (TMI?) so that isn’t happening. Does that explain my moodiness? Sheesh!
Anywho, we have done a few pages in our journal but I haven’t taken pics yet. Here is our first page. We drew a scientist. I also put all my science stuff out on the counter for them to explore for a few days after I read the What is Science? book. Students get to dress up in a lab coat (AKA a men’s white dress shirt), pick something they think is science to hold, and I snap their photo. We made an I Can Be A Scientist chart and it stays up all year. So fun!

So, we survived homecoming week here in the Radke house. Having kids in middle school and high school means twice as many theme days so that was loads of fun. I hope you are getting my sarcasm here. My church volunteers in the concession stands for homecoming. I worked three quarters and lost about ten pounds in sweat. Don’t worry, I got an ice cream on the way home so it’s all back on the hips. (Don’t tell my sister) My grandmother’s 80th birthday party was Saturday. It was fun. I stayed up and played poker with my parents, grandparents, and aunt that night until after 11:00 p.m. If you think I’m nuts, you totally should meet my family. Love them!
Long story short, it was a very long and crazy week and next week will be just as long and crazy. I was able to snag Notre Dame tickets for next Saturday for hubs and I (HE IS A ND CRAZY FAN) so in between my daughter’s band competition on Saturday and her performance at the fair next on Sunday, we are going to sneak away for the game in Dallas. We apparently thrive on madness.
Okay, I am off to bed for realz. I’m totally rambling and who knows what kinds of secrets I will blab if I keep yacking away. Tomorrow is picture day. Joy. Hopefully I will be less cranky.
Have a FANTABULOUS week friends! Lots to do, lots to teach. Good thing I LOVE my JOB. Seriously, BLESSED!
